We have received overwhelming support from Malayalee Community and other Indian Communities in Central Ohio to our Fund for supporting flood relief efforts in Kerala! With your generous donations, we were able to achieve the target of 25K in two days! It is heartening to see that the community is responding to the need as the situation demands! A big THANK YOU from the executive committee and trustee board of C.O.M.A to the community for your overwhelming support! We already sent part of the donations to CM’s relief fund. The remaining amount will be sent later this week.
The rain has stayed away and water is receding from most of the places, even though several pockets in central Kerala are still under water. It is going to be a slow recovery from the worst disaster that hit our motherland in our memory. There is still a dire need for money and supplies as people are trying to put their lives together! We will keep the option to donate via PayPal and Qucik Pay open, but will be closing the ‘GoFundMe’ portal at midnight, Tuesday. There are several other options to support – we request you support in any way you can; just make sure that your support is reaching the needy.
As we have notified you earlier, C.O.M.A Onam Celebration for this year is cancelled as we are putting our full focus on supporting the flood relief efforts.
India Festival and FIA support for Flood Relief Efforts
FIA’s India Festival is on Saturday, August 25th, which falls on Onam this year. (See flyer below) FIA has couple of initiatives during India Festival to support our flood relief campaign. In addition, C.O.M.A will be setting up a booth for fundraiser during this years India Festival. Please visit the booth and cheer our volunteers. Manas restaurant in Polaris has offered to donate 25% of your total bill if you mention that you are supporting ‘C.O.M.A’ fundraiser for Kerala flood relief during this week (Till Sunday, August 26th). YWCA Host-A-Meal by C.O.M.A Youth Wing
C.O.M.A Youth Wing Volunteers are hosting the breakfast at YWCA this Sunday morning! They are using the money raised from 5K run and bake sale during picnic for this. Thank you all for your support with this effort!

Although the weather forecast for the day didn’t look good, we all had so much fun during the picnic that we drove the rains away and the weather couldn’t have been better! We had a number of fun games such as sack race, relays, tug of war etc and the delicious food kept everyone energized! A special thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with the Bake sale conducted by COMA youth wing. We were able to raise $150 towards YWCA.

Meals on Wheels – July Updates
Joseph Abraham and Mary Eapen volunteered for the Meals on Wheels route on July 8 th 2018. COMA trustee Jacob Vengal along with Smitha Nishant and Rohan Nishant volunteered for the Meals on Wheels route on July 22 nd 2018.

COMA’s current Meals on Wheels volunteer pool is around 25 people, but only a handful of them are regular volunteers. Since we do two routes a month with a preferred count of 3 volunteers per route, that perpetuates the need for 72 volunteers an year. Instead of a few individuals doing multiple routes an year, what we’d like to see as a community organization is a more organic participation across our base of patrons. From that perspective, I’d like to invite more volunteers from our community, and also encourage our existing volunteers to sign up for delivery routes.
COMA delivers Meals on Wheels routes twice a month, specifically on the 2 nd and 4 th Sundays of the month. The next two route dates fall on August 12 th and August 26 th . Typically you have to mark out a 3 hour time slot out of your Sunday morning if you are volunteering for a route. If you would like to join the volunteer pool, please email coma.officials@gmail.com.
